O Travessa restaurant Porto

Hidden gem in Foz

By invite of a friend of my we where meeting for lunch at O Travessa. This restaurant and bar is little bit hidden in Foz velha but worth the search. I really liked that they also have a garden, so on summer days you can enjoy a dinner or drink outside. Next to their normal menu they have a dish of the day “prato do dia” and we decided to try both the fish and the meat dish of the day. We started the lunch with some really good housemade guacamole and a crisp white wine from the Douro valley.

Parisian vibes

The owner Anna talked with us about her restaurant and when I complemented her on the guacamole she was proud to say it was her own recipe. And it was also the only thing she makes in the kitchen because besides guacamole she said she is no kitchen princess. Her passion is design and that is something that shows really well in the restaurant. The interior is very trendy but stills feels homey. Anna lived for twelve years in Paris as a designer and there is a Parisian vibe in the restaurant which is enforced by a playlist of Serge Gainsbourg and Charles Aznavour. So If you visit O Travessa take a moment to listen to the music and be carried away for a bit.

Dish of the day

Okay but enough about the music and design it is the food that has to take the lead. We got a grilled plaice fish with citrus flavours served with some stewed sweet peppers in a puffed pastry. And the meat dish was a slow roasted pork belly with hummus and a light mustard sauce. Normally I am not the biggest fan of pork but this pork belly was really my favourite dish. It was super tender with a crispy layer that was not fat at all. The hummus, mustard and spinach worked very well together and I enjoyed the dish very much.

Next time…. Pavlova!

The grilled plaice was well prepared and combined with the citrus and sweet pepper it was really a mediterranean dish that tasted of summer. On top of the fish was some fried roe something that is just not my taste so that piece of the dish I did not taste. But also without eating the roe it was a very complete dish that was a good plate to share. When we finished everything and drank some more wine we where content and just went for coffee without their Pavlova. So I guess I have to go back to O Travessa to taste some of the desserts for a better review. But I already know that will not be a problem.

So Anna thanks for your hospitality. I will come back to listen to your playlists and eat more of Hector’s food.
